August…The Month of Disappointment, and then Dangangropa 3 happened! (Part 1)

Standard

So, no post last month because of the mountains of disappointment. The first thing was my job and changes to the way the Department of Education was dealing with loans, really don’t want to get into that. Second, I was hoping that Suicide Squad was going to be the DC movie I loved. Sadly,

So, yeah, I was pretty disappointed with the movie…and the 20 bucks I spent to see it in 3d. I won’t go into a movie review, but the 2 things that made the movie disappointing was,  1) the characterization of Harley Quinn and Joker’s relationship:

No! No! Bad Writers! Bad Writers!

I don’t mind a change now again but, their “relationship” was never like this. It was more like this:

And don’t forget the last part of their “relationship”:

Now, I’m gonna go on record saying that I’m not a feminazi or anything like that, but I don’t like this characterization of Harley Quinn. For the last 20 or so years, she’s never been a relationship with the Joker like it’s Bonnie and Clyde. The “relationship” is brutally honest, it’s domestic abuse. Sure, we know that she’s a domestic abuse victim and we love her, but it’s her personality we love. She’s still a lovable psycho despite being the Joker’s personal, living breathing, punching bag. Of course, that’s not the only reason I hated what they did to her.

There’s an issue in the Harley Quinn comic where she stands up to her abuser. I mean, she’s done a few times, but never like this. She finally has  serious talk, and she realizes what type of cycle of abuse they have:

I’m not showing the whole comic and you can find it yourself, but you get the gist of it. When they went around and this to Harley and made it seem like her “relationship” with the Joker was similar to Bonnie and Clyde, I wondered what else they mucked up.

My only other nitpicks were the fact that Katana, being the total badass she is, got no lines in the movie..well 2, they did nothing with Killer Croc until the last 20 minutes of the movie, and everything else  was filler.

But, Will Smith playing Deadshot was ok, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller was scary. The scene with her murdering people could’ve been taken out, but I don’t think it took too much away from her character. Captain Boomerang was plain hilarious! Every time he was on scene, I was cracking up from any antics a he had. Even though I don’t remember that being part of his character, I still loved his antics.

The ending was anti-climatic, and the rewards the squad seemed minuscule for what the did. I remember that I kind of felt bad for Deadshot not being able to get much visitation rights. Sure, he can’t get custody of his daughter because of his sentence, but it sucks that Waller won’t give him what he wanted.

So, that’s the first disappointment for me. But, there’s more to come with bad plots as I talk about part 2.
